Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) is a 130 bed general hospital located on the North West of Tasmania. Under 15 years contract with the Tasmanian Government, MCH is operated by the largest private health care provider in Australia - Mayne Health, and provides care for both - public and private patients. It serves over 40,000 population of the North West of Tasmania.

The range of services provided at Mersey Community Hospital include general surgery, major and minor vascular surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology, obstetrics, emergency medicine, general medicine, gastroenterology, cardiology, oncology, ENT surgery, ophthalmology, dental surgery, endoscopy, rehabilitation services and occupational health, anaesthesia and intensive care.

Tasmanian Institute of Critical Care has a long strong history of collaborative work with Mayne Health in developing Critical Care Services at MCH. Computerised renal support, differential lungs ventilation, transoesophageal echocardiography, inhaled nitric oxide and other new techniques were successfully introduced into the clinical practice as a result of this cooperation. Tasmanian Institute of Critical Care has been at the forefront of coordination and conduction of clinical research and postgraduate education in critical care for medical, nursing and allied health staff at MCH.

Tasmanian Institute of Critical Care will continue to develop further its cooperation with Mayne Health and MCH for the mutual benefit of both organizations in the interests of NW Tasmanian population, patients and staff at MCH.
